The No Kill Community Coalition (NKCC)
was formed in August 2006 with the mission of ending the killing of
adoptable or medically/behaviorally treatable companion animals, and feral
cats, in Lane County animal shelters.
Inspired by a local visit from national no-kill pioneer Nathan
Winograd, the coalition consists of members of local animal welfare groups
and individuals. The term "No Kill", as popularized by Nathan Winograd, and
as utilized by NKCC, means
"no killing of adoptable or medically/behaviorally
treatable companion animals, or feral cats". Companion animals
who are truly vicious, and therefore a danger to society, and animals who
are sick or injured beyond reasonable hope of recovery, are still killed in
this model of animal sheltering.
Due to the heavy workload of committee members, NKCC
meetings will now be held on an "as needed" basis. Please
Email NKCC if
you would like to help us to create a No Killing of Adoptable & Treatable
Animals community in Lane County.
If you would like to see our community truly achieve a
No Kill/Save Adoptable & Treatable Animals shelter system, please sign the
