Several
local animal rescue groups hope to find homes for two dogs who belonged to a
woman killed in Eugene two weeks ago. The Lane County Animal Regulation
Authority took the dogs, Charlie and Mickey, into its shelter, but no one came
forward to give them homes, said Diana Robertson, founder of Shelter Animal
Resource Alliance, or SARA.
Since LCARA has limited space and can't keep animals very long, SARA decided to put the dogs in foster care and try to find them homes.
"We just thought these dogs deserved another chance, because of their situation," she said.
Both dogs should make good pets and don't need to be placed together, Robertson said. Mickey, a 6-year-old shepherd mix, "is outgoing and waggy," while 5-year-old Charlie, a combination of lab and Dalmatian, "is a wonderful, obedient, quiet dog," Robertson said. Both animals behave well around other dogs, she said.
The two dogs have been taken to the Greenhill Humane Society so people interested in adopting them may see them. Greenhill's open hours run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Tuesday.
